Burning Calories not Cookies!

Burning Calories not Cookies!

Did you know you burn over 3 calories for every minute you spend working in the kitchen, and you can blast away even more by picking up the pace?

Here are some ideas of how to sneak in a few extra while you bake.

Make the Kitchen Your Gym

While you’re waiting for water to boil, do a quick set of jumping jacks and deep knee bends. Don’t worry, no one will see you. They’ll just wonder why you’re looking more toned recently. You can even do modified push-ups by placing your hands on the edge of the kitchen counter and moving your upper body up and down.

If you’re waiting for something to boil or set, turn up the music and dance while you wait. Dancing is one of the easiest and most individual forms of exercise and it can help burn off those stubborn pounds while you bake

Calorie-Burning Clean-up

The clean-up after a meal gives you another chance to burn more calories. Pick up the pace as you put things back in the refrigerator and clear off the counters. Skip the dishwasher, and scrub the dishes by hand. Dishwashing burns 160 calories per hour.

Yesterday, I had planned to run the TCS NYC marathon for the second time. It is the 50th anniversary of the race and I started running at 50 so it all works. Since signing up in Jan 2020 alot has changed. The race went virtual, along with any and all training races I had planned.

So instead of running, I am going to join in on a fitness challenge that starts today.

As a rowhouse instructor, I have my own perspective on the points brought up in this article https://www.vox.com/21515865/group-fitness-outdoor-workouts-online.

I have been coaching four classes a week, two indoor and two outdoor. I coach in Westport CT so we were allowed to open with studio social distancing and cleaning procedures. We also offer outdoor options via zoom for anyone to the indoor classes. The adoption of the outdoor classes has been very strong. It appears that this group is more comfortable with the outdoor option, especially for first timers.

I too am concerned about the colder weather, but as a runner, I am used to working out outside in all kinds of weather. The mental health benefits of going to a group class that are pointed out in this article make sense to me. I encourage anyone to find an outdoor fitness class ( before the snow flies) and soak up all those good vibes. It will help fuel your online classes and keep you motivated.

Community is still a thing, lets try and keep it working.

Row House coach

There has been an update in my fitness journey . I am a Row House coach in Westport CT. My day job in advertising is super supportive of a work life balance and that allows me the confidence to coach classes three days a week at 5 30 am. My new mantra is ” its ok if you are busy as long as you are happy”. I am both! BUSY and HAPPY

I wanted to re start the blog as I enter my 10th year of my wellness transformation. Time truly does fly when you are having fun!

Good vibes workout

Hey Squad,

This week I wanted to post a different kind of work out for you.  This week will be a week of change and for some people change  brings up lots of anxiety.  Anxiety produces cortisol in your body and that lands in your mid section as belly fat.

One non cardio way to fight that production of cortisol is to meditate. Studies show that even 5 minutes a day lower your heart rate and improve your respiration.  Also, like HIIT workouts that burn calories even after the workout, meditation has benefits all day long. Lets meditate five minutes a day and send good vibes out to the country.

If you need a great online tool ( and app) to help guide you, I recommend Calm  The ocean sounds have been playing in the background while I was typing this today. It has been lovely.

I leave you with a quote that came up in my twitter feed this week

“If you really want to rebel, practice kindness”… (unknown)
