Century ride Team in training World Heart Day

Heart Health

This year, I am more aware of World Heart Day since during quarantine, I found out I have a heart issue!

I had not really talked about it on StrongbyStrand so I thought world heart day would be perfect.

Every year, over 17 million people die from heart disease. As a way to fight this, the World Heart Federation created World Heart Day. It’s an event held every year on September 29.

People around the world can find events that raise awareness about cardiovascular disease (CVD) — its warning signs, the steps you can take to fight it, and how to help those around you who may be suffering.

I was one of those people that had no symptoms of a heart issue and it was found during a regular checkup. I am very lucky to have found it out now and I feel selfish that I was kind of a brat when I found out.

In order to be 100% sure that this will not be a bigger issue, I had to stop training for the Chicago Marathon. Long distance running is not recommended. Trust me, I did all the desktop research and even got a second opinion but it I finally listened.

So to make lemonade from lemons.. I am now training for a Century Bike Ride in Lake Tahoe on June 4, 2022 with Team In Training. I checked with my dr and he is more worried about me bike riding in traffic than the physical exertion part so thats a good.

If you want to follow me and my husband on our novice to pro ( ?) bike training journey, check us out on instagram @strongbystrandon2wheels

Also, if you haven’t had a check up in a while, please schedule it soon.

Cheerfully yours,

Coach Phyllis
