In marathon terms, we are at mile 20 with regard to the Covid pandemic. You’re tired and ready for it to be over. But you’re not a quitter; you know that if you stick to the original plan you’ll get through this. The finish line is ahead…. don’t give up!
I hope that we all can feel this happy at 12:01am on Jan. 1

Need a plan to start out the New Year, send me an email at phyllis@strongbystrand.com and we can get you set up.

Inspiration

29 Nov

This year has been a real test for everyone and I am sending all of the squad a huge HUG and hope you stay well.

I started to think about what Strong By Strand means. It has become my platform to share my helath and wellness journey in the hope that I help someone else along the way.

Thats a pretty lofty goal and one that I did not take very seriously, and that changes now. I am committing to making this the best platform it can be so be on the lookout for lots of new content.

I promise no doomscrolling or difficult phyical challenges will be coming your way. The best way forward is one step at a time and with this blog and a each other we can keep moving in the right direction.

Stay Strong,

Coach Phyllis

Fall Hiking in the woods

Fall Hiking in the woods
15 Nov

November is the best time of year to hike in the woods and see all the Fall leaves. There are so many colors to see around you. The ground isn’t the usual brown or green because its covered with the Fall leaves. This year the squirrels have been extra busy gathering acorns, there are not as many around to collect. I hope does not mean we are in for a chilly winter with lots of snow. Where is your favorite place to hike? Here is a link to my favorite spots in CT. Get out there soon before the cold winter comes.

Veterans Day 2020

Veterans Day 2020
11 Nov

Being from the Washington DC area, we always observed Veterans Day in a big way. There was always a parade in DC and the president layed a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. ( I am sure that they still takes place)

To celebrate this date in my way, I thought I would commemorate the day by sharing some fun facts that I tearned about Veterans Day.

  • 18.2 million living veterans served during at least one war as of 2018.
  • 9 percent of veterans are women.
  • 7 million veterans served during the Vietnam War.
  • 3 million veterans have served in support of the War on Terrorism.
  • Of the 16 million Americans who served during World War II, about 496,777 were still alive as of 2018.
  • Connecticut was home to the highest percentage of World War II veterans as of 2018 at 7.1 percent.

So as you are going about your day today and if you see an American flag take a minute and send a “thank you for your service” thought out into the world. I know I will!

missing the Zzzzs

09 Nov

Probably not the best week to start any kind of wellness routine. I did pretty well on everything except the sleeping part. My maryruth organics sleep could not even help ! It have been very hard to turn off social media two hours before bedtime. So the good thing is that you can always start over. In case you haven’t read all these tips before, here are some good ones to help you get a restful nights sleep.

  1. Stick to a sleep schedule. Set aside no more than eight hours for sleep
  2. Pay attention to what you eat and drink. Don’t go to bed hungry or stuffed.
  3. Create a restful environment. Create a room that’s ideal for sleeping. Temp shoud be between 60- 65 digress
  4. Limit daytime naps. One of those WFH habits that took over for the two hour boozy lunches.
  5. Include physical activity in your daily routine. 30 minutes is the sweet spot
  6. Manage worries. Lots of deep breathes and meditation.

If you need help with a fitness routine, reach out to me and I can work with you to get. you started. If you have any good sleeping tips, I would love to hear them.
