Farmers Market finds

I love a Farmers Market and even thru quarantine it was great to see these still happen in our area.

You can get such great local produce and at a wonderful value. When I work with folks on finding new fruits or vegetables to try, I always suggest that they visit a farmers market. Talking to the local farmers and hearing about their farm and what keeps them going often generation after generation is wonderful.

Here are a few tips of how to wash the produce once you get it home.

Gently rub produce while holding under plain running water. There’s no need to use soap or a produce wash. Use a clean vegetable brush to scrub firm produce, such as melons and cucumbers. Dry produce with a clean cloth or paper towel to further reduce bacteria that may be present.

The produce you get is fresh, so you will need to plan to eat up everything before the Farmers Market next weekend. I often freeze blueberries and strawberries to have on hand for smoothies. Its a good idea to slice up the apples and the peppers so you have options when you are looking for a snack.

Westport Farmers Market is open year round.

Enjoy exploring !

Cheerfully yours,
